Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic School Library Officer to join our team, focusing on both literacy promotion and essential technical support within our dynamic school library. This role is pivotal in maintaining a stimulating and accessible learning environment, ensuring students and staff have access to a wide range of resources, and providing first-line technical assistance to library users. You will be instrumental in fostering a love of reading and digital literacy amongst our students.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the school library, including cataloguing, shelving, and maintaining the collection.
- Assist students and staff with research, resource location, and general library inquiries.
- Promote reading and literacy through displays, book clubs, author visits, and other engaging initiatives.
- Provide first-line technical support for library computers, printers, and other IT equipment.
- Assist students with basic IT queries, including software usage and online resource access.
- Maintain the library management system, ensuring accurate records of books and other resources.
- Support the Head of Library Services in developing and implementing library policies and procedures.
- Ensure the library is a safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for all users.
- Assist with the acquisition and processing of new library materials, both physical and digital.
Required Skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, particularly with young people.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in basic IT skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to troubleshoot common technical issues with computers and peripherals.
- A passion for reading, literature, and promoting literacy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience in an administrative or support role, preferably within an educational setting.
Preferred Qualifications
- A qualification in Library and Information Science or a related field.
- Previous experience working in a school library or similar educational environment.
- Familiarity with library management systems (e.g., Oliver, Eclipse.net).
- Basic knowledge of network connectivity and common software applications used in schools.
- Experience with creating engaging promotional materials or displays.
