Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Scrub Nurse to join our theatre team at Circle Health Group in Derby. As a Scrub Nurse, you will be an integral part of our surgical unit, providing expert assistance to surgeons during a variety of procedures. Your role will involve preparing the theatre, instruments, and equipment, maintaining a sterile environment, and ensuring the smooth flow of surgical operations. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating theatre for surgical procedures, ensuring all necessary equipment and instruments are sterile and readily available.
- Assist surgeons and surgical teams during operations by providing instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies as required.
- Maintain accurate counts of sponges, needles, and instruments during and after procedures to prevent retained surgical items.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team to ensure efficient and timely progression of the operation.
- Ensure the highest standards of infection control and patient safety are maintained at all times.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including anaesthetists, ODPs, and recovery nurses, to provide comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in post-operative cleaning and preparation of the theatre for subsequent procedures.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive patient records.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of theatre services and patient care.
- Provide support and guidance to junior staff and students.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) qualification.
- Current NMC or HCPC registration.
- Minimum of 2 years' post-registration experience in a theatre scrub role.
- Demonstrable experience across a range of surgical specialties.
- Excellent knowledge of surgical procedures and instrumentation.
- Strong commitment to patient safety and high-quality care.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) certification.
- Post-registration qualification in Perioperative Practice or equivalent.
- Experience with digital theatre systems and electronic patient records.
- Participation in audit and service improvement initiatives.
