Job Description

We are seeking a proactive and enthusiastic Sensory Science & Taste Testing Intern to join our Research & Development team in Mississauga, Ontario. This is an incredible opportunity for someone looking to gain hands-on experience in the fascinating world of food and beverage product development and sensory evaluation. As an intern, you will play a crucial role in supporting our sensory panel activities, data collection, and analysis, contributing directly to the improvement and innovation of our beloved products. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for individuals with little to no prior experience but a strong passion for science and consumer products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the preparation and execution of sensory evaluation tests, including taste tests, texture analysis, and aroma evaluations.
  • Support the sensory panel leader in guiding panelists through testing procedures and ensuring data integrity.
  • Help with the preparation of food and beverage samples according to strict protocols for sensory evaluation.
  • Accurately collect, organize, and input sensory data into databases.
  • Assist in the preliminary analysis of sensory data and prepare simple reports or summaries.
  • Maintain a clean and organized sensory lab environment, ensuring all equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
  • Learn and adhere to all food safety and laboratory best practices.
  • Collaborate with R&D scientists and other team members on various product development projects.

Required Skills

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions precisely.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Enthusiasm for learning about food science, sensory evaluation, and consumer products.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's degree program in Food Science, Nutrition, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, or a related scientific field.
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting (academic or professional) is a plus but not required.
  • Basic understanding of statistical concepts.
  • Demonstrated interest in the food and beverage industry.
