Job Description
Are you eager to launch a career in cutting-edge energy technology? Benton PUD is seeking a motivated Smart Grid Installation Assistant to join our team in Richland, WA. You will work alongside experienced technicians, gaining practical experience with smart meters, grid sensors, communication networks, and distribution automation systems, all vital components of our modern electrical grid. This role is perfect for someone who is hands-on, detail-oriented, and committed to contributing to a critical public service.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in all provided paid training programs to develop expertise in smart grid installation and maintenance techniques.
- Assist lead technicians in the installation, testing, and configuration of smart meters, grid sensors, and other smart grid devices.
- Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on smart grid equipment under direct supervision.
- Help diagnose and resolve basic operational issues with smart grid components and reporting complex problems.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as industry standards, during all fieldwork.
- Maintain accurate records of installation activities, equipment inventory, and work performed.
- Operate and maintain company tools and vehicles responsibly and safely.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and occasionally with customers regarding project status or service updates.
- Support the preparation and staging of materials and equipment for daily field operations.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Washington State driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to comprehend and follow technical instructions and safety guidelines.
- A strong desire to learn and develop new technical skills in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent attendance record and punctuality.
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Basic computer proficiency for data entry and online training modules.
- Commitment to teamwork and a positive attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a general labor, construction, or other hands-on trade role.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools and power tools.
- Any exposure to electrical concepts or technical coursework.
- Residency within Benton County or a willingness to relocate.
