Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Snow Plow / Gritter Drivers to join our team for the upcoming winter season on a crucial public sector contract within Tower Hamlets. This seasonal role is vital for ensuring public safety and maintaining essential services during adverse weather conditions. As a key member of our winter maintenance crew, you will be responsible for operating specialized vehicles to clear snow and spread grit on designated routes, contributing directly to keeping roads and pathways safe for the community. Full training on specific gritting equipment and safety protocols will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate snow plows and gritting vehicles safely and efficiently on designated routes.
- Respond promptly to call-outs for gritting and snow clearing duties, often at short notice and during unsocial hours.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any defects.
- Maintain accurate records of routes covered, materials used, and hours worked.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies and procedures, as well as road traffic regulations.
- Work collaboratively with the winter maintenance team to ensure effective service delivery.
- Perform minor vehicle maintenance tasks as required (e.g., checking fluid levels, tire pressure).
- Represent Veolia UK professionally while interacting with the public and other stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Full UK driving license (HGV Class C or C+E preferred, but Class B with relevant experience considered)
- Demonstrable experience in professional driving roles (e.g., commercial vehicle driver, delivery driver)
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, often at short notice.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to operational procedures.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly motivated.
- Good communication skills and a team-oriented attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- HGV Class C or C+E driving license.
- Previous experience operating snow plows, gritters, or similar heavy machinery.
- Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence).
- Local knowledge of the Tower Hamlets area.
