Job Description
We are seeking an accomplished and passionate Sommelier / Wine Director to elevate our award-winning wine program. This pivotal role involves overseeing all aspects of our wine cellars, curating exceptional wine lists that complement our culinary offerings, and providing an expert level of service to our guests. The successful candidate will be a true connoisseur, possessing deep knowledge of wines from diverse regions, excellent leadership skills, and a commitment to creating memorable dining experiences. Key Responsibilities
- Curate and maintain an extensive, diverse, and profitable wine list, regularly updating selections to reflect seasonal changes and guest preferences.
- Manage all aspects of wine inventory, including procurement, cellar management, stock rotation, and cost control.
- Provide expert wine recommendations and engaging service to guests, enhancing their dining experience.
- Train and mentor service staff on wine knowledge, pairing principles, and service standards.
- Conduct regular wine tastings and educational sessions for both staff and guests.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and liquor licensing regulations.
- Collaborate with the Executive Chef and culinary team to create harmonious food and wine pairings.
- Develop and manage the wine program budget, ensuring financial targets are met or exceeded.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with wine suppliers and distributors.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Sommelier or Wine Director in a luxury hotel or fine dining establishment.
- Advanced Sommelier certification (Court of Master Sommeliers) or equivalent WSET Diploma.
- Profound knowledge of international wines, spirits, and viticulture.
- Exceptional customer service and communication skills.
- Proven leadership abilities with experience in staff training and development.
- Strong organizational and inventory management skills.
- Proficiency in point-of-sale (POS) systems and inventory software.
- Fluency in English; additional language skills are a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master Sommelier Diploma.
- Experience with multi-outlet wine program management.
- Demonstrated success in increasing wine sales and profitability.
- International work experience in a similar role.
- Passion for continuous learning and staying abreast of wine industry trends.
