Job Description
Join Dublin City Schools as a Special Needs Transport Assistant and play a vital role in ensuring the safe and comfortable transportation of our students with diverse needs. This part-time position offers a unique split-shift schedule, making it an ideal opportunity for parents seeking work that aligns with school hours. You will be responsible for providing compassionate support and assistance to students during their daily commute, contributing directly to their ability to access education and participate in school life. Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport students with special needs to and from school and school-related activities.
- Assist students with boarding and disembarking the vehicle, including securement of wheelchairs and other mobility devices.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, school staff, and the transportation department regarding schedules, concerns, and student needs.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized vehicle environment.
- Adhere to all traffic laws, school district policies, and special education transportation guidelines.
- Complete daily vehicle inspections and maintain accurate transportation logs.
- Provide compassionate and patient support to students throughout their journey.
- Respond to student needs and emergencies in a calm and appropriate manner.
Required Skills
- Valid Ohio Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a focus on patience and empathy.
- Strong understanding of and sensitivity to the diverse needs of students with disabilities.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist students with mobility as required.
- Reliable, punctual, and highly responsible.
- Ability to maintain composure and respond effectively in challenging situations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with children, especially those with special needs or in an educational setting.
- Familiarity with Dublin City Schools transportation routes and procedures.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
- Experience operating a passenger van or similar vehicle.
