Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Stress Engineer to join our dynamic team in Harrogate. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing detailed stress analysis on various mechanical components and systems, ensuring structural integrity, safety, and compliance with industry standards. This role involves working on cutting-edge projects, often within the automotive, aerospace, or industrial sectors, and requires a strong understanding of fundamental engineering principles and advanced analytical techniques.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive static and dynamic stress analysis using FEA software (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran).
- Evaluate designs for structural integrity, fatigue life, and fracture mechanics.
- Develop and validate analytical models and test plans.
- Prepare detailed technical reports and presentations of analysis results.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and test teams throughout the product lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and customer specifications.
- Participate in design reviews and provide expert advice on structural optimization.
- Support problem-solving activities related to product performance and failures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in stress analysis and structural mechanics.
- Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) software (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS, Nastran).
- Strong understanding of material properties, fatigue, and fracture mechanics.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
- Proficiency in English.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with hand calculations and classical stress analysis methods.
- Familiarity with industry-specific standards (e.g., aerospace, automotive).
- Experience with optimization techniques and design for manufacture (DFM).
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
