Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical team in Leominster, Herefordshire. This is an exciting opportunity for both experienced UK-based professionals and international applicants looking to advance their careers in a supportive and cutting-edge healthcare environment. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care by ensuring the operating room is prepared, sterile, and equipped for a variety of surgical procedures. You will work closely with surgeons, nurses, and anaesthetists, contributing to the safety and efficiency of every operation. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the sterile surgical field, ensuring all necessary equipment, instruments, and supplies are readily available and in working order.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and surgical team, passing instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently during procedures.
- Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse to maintain a safe surgical environment.
- Handle surgical specimens correctly, following established protocols for labelling, handling, and delivery to pathology.
- Assist in the positioning, skin preparation, and draping of patients for surgical procedures.
- Maintain an organised and clean operating room throughout the surgical process.
- Adhere strictly to all aseptic techniques and infection control policies.
- Collaborate effectively with all members of the surgical team to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Participate in the cleaning and restocking of the operating room post-procedure.
Required Skills
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent qualification.
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist (e.g., NBSTSA CST, or equivalent international certification recognized in the UK).
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) of practical experience as a Surgical Technologist.
- Demonstrable knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instruments, and operating room protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to perform accurately under pressure.
- Proficiency in English, commensurate with the demands of a clinical role in the UK (e.g., IELTS B2 or OET Grade C+).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a variety of surgical specialties (e.g., orthopaedics, general surgery, gynaecology, urology).
- Advanced certifications relevant to surgical technology or specific surgical areas.
- Previous experience working in a UK healthcare setting or proven adaptability to new healthcare systems.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
