Job Description
Regions Financial Corporation is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Tax Manager to join our dynamic team in Birmingham, Alabama. As a Tax Manager, you will play a critical role in managing the company’s tax compliance, reporting, and planning functions. You will be responsible for overseeing the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns, ensuring accuracy and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical tax skills, exceptional attention to detail, and proven leadership abilities to guide and mentor junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the preparation and review of federal, state, and local income tax returns, including all related workpapers and supporting documentation.
- Oversee the accurate and timely preparation of quarterly and annual income tax provisions in accordance with ASC 740.
- Conduct tax research and analysis to support tax planning strategies and ensure compliance with new tax legislation.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in the tax reporting function.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, and business units, to gather necessary information and provide tax guidance.
- Manage tax audits and inquiries from various taxing authorities.
- Mentor and develop junior tax professionals, providing guidance and performance feedback.
- Prepare tax forecasts and budgets.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in corporate tax, preferably within a large public company or Big Four public accounting firm
- Strong understanding of federal and state tax laws and regulations
- Proficiency in tax preparation software (e.g., OneSource, GoSystem RS) and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
- Knowledge of GAAP and ASC 740 (Accounting for Income Taxes)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master of Taxation (MST) or Master of Business Administration (MBA) with a concentration in Tax
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
- Experience with financial services industry taxation
- Prior experience managing and developing a team
