Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Traffic Sign Installation Laborer to join our Outdoor Council Role team. This position involves performing a variety of tasks related to the installation, maintenance, and repair of traffic signs, street signs, and related equipment throughout the city of Las Cruces. The successful candidate will work primarily outdoors in various weather conditions, ensuring that all signage meets city and state regulations for visibility and safety. Full training will be provided for specific equipment and procedures, making this an excellent opportunity for individuals eager to contribute to public safety and work outdoors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, repair, and replace traffic signs, street signs, and related posts or hardware following established guidelines and specifications.
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, and light construction equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Assist in loading and unloading materials and equipment from vehicles.
  • Perform routine maintenance on existing signs, including cleaning, straightening, and removing graffiti.
  • Excavate post holes and mix concrete as needed for sign installation.
  • Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and traffic control devices.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, including sign locations, types, and installation dates.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, communicating clearly with supervisors and colleagues.
  • Assist with traffic control setup and breakdown at job sites to ensure worker and public safety.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform strenuous physical work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Basic understanding of safety practices and willingness to follow safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and stand for extended periods.
  • Manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality.
  • Valid New Mexico Driver's License or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in general labor, construction, or outdoor maintenance.
  • Experience operating basic hand tools and power tools.
  • Familiarity with traffic control setup and flagger procedures.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
