Job Description

Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian is offering an invaluable Medical Student Intern – Hospital Clinical Rotation opportunity for dedicated and aspiring medical students. This on-site internship provides a comprehensive hands-on clinical experience within a world-class hospital setting. Interns will gain direct exposure to various medical specialties, patient care practices, and the daily operations of a busy hospital. This program is designed for current medical students seeking to apply their academic knowledge in a practical environment, develop essential clinical skills, and explore different facets of medicine under the guidance of experienced physicians and healthcare teams. Key Responsibilities

• Observe and participate in patient rounds, examinations, and procedures under direct supervision.
• Assist healthcare teams with patient care tasks, including vital signs, patient transport, and basic care activities.
• Document patient histories, physical exams, and progress notes accurately and timely in the electronic health record.
• Participate actively in interdisciplinary team meetings, educational conferences, and grand rounds.
• Learn and adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, ethical guidelines, and patient privacy regulations (HIPAA).
• Communicate effectively and professionally with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
• Contribute to a positive and collaborative learning environment, showing initiative and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Required Skills

• Currently enrolled in an accredited Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) program.
• Strong academic record and foundational medical knowledge.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
• Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and professionalism in all interactions.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a diverse and fast-paced healthcare team.
• Eagerness to learn, adapt, and proactively seek out new knowledge and experiences.
• Basic understanding of medical terminology, human anatomy, and physiology.

Preferred Qualifications

• Completion of USMLE Step 1 or COMLEX Level 1 examinations.
• Demonstrated interest in a specific medical specialty (e.g., Internal Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine).
• Prior volunteer or shadowing experience in a hospital or clinical healthcare setting.
• Basic research experience in a medical or scientific field.
• Proficiency in additional languages relevant to the patient population.
