Job Description

Are you passionate about vehicles and eager to start a rewarding career in mechanics? Amey plc is excited to offer an exceptional apprenticeship opportunity for a Trainee Fleet Mechanic to work on government vehicles. This is a hands-on, entry-level role where you will receive comprehensive training and support to become a skilled mechanic. You will learn to maintain, diagnose, and repair a diverse range of government vehicles, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and operational. This apprenticeship combines practical experience with formal training, leading to a recognized qualification and a strong foundation for your future career.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist qualified mechanics with routine maintenance and servicing of government vehicles.
  • Learn to diagnose faults and perform repairs under supervision, including engines, brakes, transmissions, and electrical systems.
  • Support in conducting vehicle safety inspections and preparing vehicles for roadworthiness tests.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workshop environment.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and company policies.
  • Participate actively in all aspects of the apprenticeship training program.
  • Accurately complete paperwork and digital records related to vehicle maintenance.

  • A genuine interest in mechanics and vehicle maintenance.

  • Good communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A diligent and responsible approach to work.
  • Basic understanding of workshop safety (or willingness to learn immediately).

Preferred Qualifications

  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths at grade 4 (C) or above.
  • A valid UK driving licence (or working towards one).
  • Prior experience or hobbies related to mechanics or engineering is a plus, but not essential.
