Job Description
Are you passionate about Scotland’s natural heritage and eager to start a career in conservation? NatureScot is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as Trainee Wildlife Conservation Officers. This government-funded program offers comprehensive training and hands-on experience in wildlife protection, habitat management, and community engagement. No prior experience is required; we provide all the necessary skills and knowledge to launch your career in this vital field.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior officers with wildlife monitoring and surveys, including data collection and analysis.
- Participate in habitat restoration and management projects, such as invasive species control or native planting initiatives.
- Engage with local communities, landowners, and stakeholders on conservation initiatives and educational programs.
- Learn and apply relevant wildlife legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Contribute to data collection, record-keeping, and reporting on conservation efforts and project outcomes.
- Undertake practical fieldwork tasks, often in challenging outdoor conditions and remote locations.
- Complete all required training modules, assessments, and certifications to develop expertise in wildlife conservation.
Required Skills
- A strong, demonstrable passion for wildlife and environmental conservation.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging with diverse groups.
- Basic computer literacy, including familiarity with common office software.
- A proactive attitude, willingness to learn, and adaptability to new challenges and environments.
- Physical fitness suitable for outdoor fieldwork, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
- Eligibility to work in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
- A-levels or equivalent qualifications in a science, environmental, or related subject.
- Experience with outdoor activities, nature volunteering, or involvement in environmental clubs.
- A full, clean UK driving licence.
- Basic knowledge of local Scottish flora and fauna.
