Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Urban Planning & City Development Intern to join our Municipal Office in Moose Jaw. This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for individuals passionate about urban planning, community development, and public service. No prior professional experience is required; we are looking for a eager learner who can contribute to our team and gain invaluable hands-on experience in municipal planning processes. You will work closely with experienced planners and staff, supporting various projects that contribute to the strategic growth and enhancement of our city.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist planning staff with research, data collection, and analysis for various urban planning projects.
- Support the preparation of reports, presentations, and public notices related to zoning, land use, and development applications.
- Conduct site visits and gather information as needed for specific projects.
- Help maintain and update departmental records, databases, and mapping systems.
- Attend and observe planning meetings, public hearings, and community consultations.
- Provide administrative support to the planning department as required.
- Learn about municipal bylaws, policies, and regulations governing urban development.
Required Skills
- Strong interest in urban planning, geography, public administration, or a related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a post-secondary program in urban planning, geography, environmental studies, public administration, or a related discipline.
- Basic understanding of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS) is an asset, but not required.
- Familiarity with municipal government operations.
