Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Vet Lab Technician to join our diagnostic laboratory team in Port Macquarie. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests on animal samples, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in all procedures. This position requires a strong understanding of laboratory protocols, a keen eye for detail, and a passion for contributing to animal health outcomes. You will work within a supportive team environment, utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and adhering to strict quality control standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on veterinary samples (blood, urine, tissue, etc.) using automated analyzers and manual techniques.
- Prepare samples for analysis, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and slide preparation.
- Operate, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment, troubleshooting minor issues as needed.
- Accurately record and interpret test results, maintaining detailed documentation.
- Adhere to strict quality control procedures and participate in quality assurance programs.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory working environment.
- Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering and stocking supplies.
- Communicate effectively with veterinarians and other team members regarding sample status or results.
- Comply with all safety regulations and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Veterinary Laboratory Technician or similar role.
- Proficiency in performing various diagnostic tests (e.g., hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, microbiology).
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Veterinary Technology, or a related scientific field.
- Certification as a Veterinary Technician (CVT) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
- Experience with IDEXX specific instrumentation and software.
- Knowledge of veterinary anatomy, physiology, and common animal diseases.
