Job Description

Are you passionate about craft beer and eager to learn the intricate art of brewing from the ground up? FogHorn Brewery is seeking a highly motivated Brewmaster Intern to join our dynamic team in Newcastle. This comprehensive mentorship program is designed for individuals with little to no prior brewing experience who are committed to a career in craft beer. You will work closely with our experienced Brewmasters, gaining hands-on knowledge in all aspects of brewery operations, from raw material handling to fermentation, cellaring, and packaging. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Brewmasters with daily brewing operations, including milling, mashing, lautering, and boiling.
  • Learn and execute proper sanitation procedures for tanks, hoses, and other brewing equipment.
  • Participate in yeast management, fermentation monitoring, and beer conditioning processes.
  • Assist with packaging operations, including kegging, canning, and bottling.
  • Support cellar tasks such as dry hopping, fining, and transferring beer.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment within the brewery.
  • Follow all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and safety protocols.
  • Participate in quality control checks and record-keeping.
  • Assist with inventory management of raw materials and finished products.
  • Contribute to the general upkeep and maintenance of the brewery facility.

Required Skills

  • Strong, demonstrable passion for craft beer and the brewing industry.
  • Exceptional eagerness to learn, take initiative, and absorb new information.
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely and meticulously.
  • Physical stamina and ability to lift up to 25kg, stand for extended periods, and work in varying temperatures.
  • Excellent verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older (due to alcohol handling regulations).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of scientific principles (e.g., biology, chemistry) is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a production, manufacturing, or hospitality environment.
  • Completion of relevant coursework (e.g., food science, hospitality management, brewing short courses) is advantageous but not required.
