Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and proactive Veteran Affairs Outreach Assistant to join our team in Dollard-des-Ormeaux. This vital role involves directly engaging with veterans and their families, connecting them with essential resources, and building strong community relationships. The ideal candidate will be empathetic, organized, and possess excellent communication skills, with a strong desire to make a tangible difference in the lives of our nation’s heroes. You will act as a primary point of contact, providing information, support, and guidance on various veteran affairs programs and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach activities to identify veterans and their families in need of support within the Dollard-des-Ormeaux community and surrounding areas.
- Act as a liaison between veterans and various support services, including healthcare, employment assistance, housing, and mental health programs.
- Organize and participate in community events, workshops, and information sessions to raise awareness of available resources.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of veteran interactions and service referrals.
- Provide administrative support to the outreach team, including scheduling appointments and preparing materials.
- Gather feedback from veterans to help improve existing programs and identify new areas of need.
- Collaborate with local government agencies, non-profits, and community partners to enhance service delivery.
- Respond to inquiries from veterans and their families with empathy and professionalism, offering guidance and support.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service, administrative, or community outreach role
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Demonstrated empathy and sensitivity towards veterans' issues
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in social work, community services, or a related field
- Experience working with veterans or in a non-profit setting
- Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset due to the location
- Knowledge of Canadian veteran affairs programs and services
