Job Description
Are you passionate about animals and looking for a rewarding weekend role? Bend Veterinary Clinic is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Veterinary Kennel Assistant to join our compassionate team. This entry-level position is perfect for dedicated animal lovers who are eager to learn and contribute to a caring environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring the comfort, cleanliness, and well-being of our boarding and hospitalized animals, working closely with our veterinary technicians and veterinarians. Full training will be provided, so no prior experience in a veterinary setting is required – just a strong work ethic and a genuine love for animals!
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize kennels, cages, and runs regularly to maintain a hygienic environment.
- Feed and water animals according to specific dietary instructions and schedules.
- Monitor animals for changes in behavior, appetite, or health, reporting observations to veterinary staff.
- Provide exercise and enrichment activities for animals, including walks and playtime.
- Administer medications as directed by veterinary staff, ensuring accurate dosage and timing.
- Assist with basic grooming tasks such as bathing and brushing.
- Restock supplies in kennels and assist with laundry duties.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas, including treatment rooms and waiting areas.
- Assist veterinary technicians and veterinarians with animal restraint as needed.
- Comfort and reassure anxious or distressed animals, offering gentle handling and companionship.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for animals.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently.
- Strong attention to detail and observation skills.
- Reliable and punctual, especially for weekend shifts.
- Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs and standing for extended periods.
- Excellent communication skills and a team-player attitude.
- Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be 18 years or older.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience caring for animals (e.g., pet owner, volunteer at a shelter, farm experience).
- High school diploma or equivalent.
