Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Virologist to join our innovative research and development team in Coventry, West Midlands. This is an exceptional opportunity to contribute to critical projects aimed at understanding, preventing, and treating viral diseases. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and executing experiments, analyzing complex data, and driving forward our viral research portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, conduct, and analyze in vitro and ex vivo virology experiments, including viral culture, neutralization assays, and antiviral efficacy testing.
  • Develop and optimize novel molecular and cellular assays for viral detection, quantification, and characterization.
  • Interpret complex experimental data, draw conclusions, and present findings clearly to multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues across immunology, pharmacology, and drug discovery departments.
  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and ensure adherence to rigorous scientific standards and safety protocols.
  • Contribute to the preparation of scientific reports, presentations, and publications.
  • Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature and technological advancements in virology.

Required Skills

  • PhD or MSc in Virology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification laboratory experience in virology research, preferably within an industrial setting.
  • Proficiency in standard virological techniques, including cell culture, viral propagation, plaque assays, PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, and ELISA.
  • Strong understanding of viral replication cycles, host-pathogen interactions, and immunology.
  • Excellent data analysis, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral experience focusing on respiratory viruses, emerging viral threats, or antiviral drug discovery.
  • Experience with high-throughput screening technologies.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for viral genome analysis and sequencing data interpretation.
  • Track record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
