Job Description

Join Ochsner Health as a Virtual Public Health Contact Tracer and play a crucial role in our ongoing efforts to protect community health. This is an immediate start, 100% remote position where you will be responsible for confidentially interviewing individuals who have tested positive for communicable diseases and their close contacts. You will provide critical information, guidance, and support, helping to break chains of transmission. Full training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for compassionate individuals eager to contribute to public health from the comfort of their home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct confidential, empathetic, and culturally sensitive interviews with individuals who have tested positive for communicable diseases to identify their close contacts.
  • Utilize a web-based client resource management (CRM) system to accurately document all information, including symptoms, demographic data, and contact tracing efforts.
  • Provide clear, concise, and accurate information regarding isolation and quarantine procedures, disease transmission, and available support services.
  • Monitor individuals under isolation or quarantine for symptoms and ensure compliance with public health recommendations.
  • Escalate complex cases or unusual situations to supervisors or designated public health officials as needed.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all client information and adhere to privacy regulations (HIPAA).
  • Collaborate effectively with a remote team and supervisors, participating in virtual meetings and training sessions.
  • Stay informed on current public health guidelines and protocols related to communicable disease control.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey sensitive information empathetically.
  • Strong active listening skills and ability to build rapport quickly over the phone.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills, including data entry and navigating web-based applications.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment, maintaining focus and productivity.
  • High level of integrity and ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to handle difficult conversations with professionalism.
  • Reliable internet access and a quiet, private workspace suitable for phone calls.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new public health guidelines and procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in public health, healthcare, social work, or a related field.
  • Experience in customer service, call center operations, or a role requiring extensive phone communication.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology or public health concepts.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish, Vietnamese, or other languages prevalent in the community).
