Job Description
Are you passionate about retail and have an eye for design, even if you don’t have direct experience? John Lewis is looking for an enthusiastic Visual Merchandising Assistant Trainee to join our team in Poole. This is an incredible opportunity for someone eager to start a career in visual merchandising, as we will provide full, comprehensive training to help you develop the skills needed to excel in this creative role. You will work alongside experienced visual merchandisers, learning the art of creating captivating displays that enhance our products and engage our customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the creation and execution of visually appealing product displays and window concepts following John Lewis brand guidelines.
- Learn to interpret visual merchandising directives and implement them effectively within the store.
- Support the visual merchandising team in preparing for seasonal changes, promotions, and special events.
- Help maintain the visual standards of the sales floor, ensuring products are displayed attractively and are well-stocked.
- Learn about product placement, lighting techniques, and the use of props to highlight merchandise.
- Assist with moving and arranging fixtures, furniture, and products on the sales floor.
- Monitor stock levels on displays and communicate needs to the sales team.
- Collaborate with sales associates to understand product performance and customer preferences.
- Actively participate in training sessions and seek feedback to continuously improve visual merchandising skills.
Required Skills
- A keen interest in retail, fashion, and home goods display.
- A creative mindset and an eye for aesthetics and detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong work ethic and a proactive attitude.
- Willingness to learn new skills and adapt to changing trends.
- Physical ability to stand for long periods, lift and move display materials (within health and safety guidelines).
Preferred Qualifications
- GCSEs or equivalent qualifications, including English and Maths.
- Basic understanding of design principles or visual arts.
- Previous experience in a customer-facing role (e.g., retail assistant) is a plus but not essential.
- Familiarity with the John Lewis brand and its product offerings.
