Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Waste Services Assistant to join our team at the Council Depot in Murray Bridge. This vital role supports the efficient operation of our waste management facilities and services, ensuring public health and environmental compliance. You will be involved in a range of duties, from general waste handling and site maintenance to assisting with customer inquiries and equipment operation, contributing directly to the cleanliness and sustainability of our region.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the management and processing of various waste streams at the depot, including general waste, recycling, and green waste.
- Operate basic machinery and equipment as required (e.g., small loaders, forklifts – training provided if needed).
- Maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the waste transfer station and surrounding depot areas.
- Monitor incoming waste to ensure compliance with site regulations and assist residents with appropriate waste disposal.
- Conduct visual inspections of facilities and report any maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Support the waste services team in day-to-day operations and special projects.
- Adhere strictly to all WHS policies and procedures, ensuring a safe working environment.
- Perform general labouring duties as directed by the Waste Services Supervisor.
Required Skills
- Valid Australian Driver's License (Car or above).
- Strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting and carrying.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in waste management, general labouring, or a similar outdoor operational role.
- Forklift license (LF) or experience operating small plant machinery.
- First Aid Certificate.
- White Card (General Construction Induction Training).
