Job Description

Cross Timbers Dairy & Fermentation is seeking an enthusiastic and curious Zymology & Fermentation Science Intern to join our dedicated research and development team. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic production and laboratory environment. You will work alongside experienced scientists and production specialists, contributing to various projects related to product development, quality control, and process optimization. This role is ideal for individuals eager to learn about fermentation from a practical, industrial perspective, with full training provided to ensure your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior scientists and technicians with ongoing fermentation experiments and research projects.
  • Prepare and sterilize media, glassware, and equipment for laboratory and pilot-scale fermentations.
  • Monitor fermentation parameters such as pH, temperature, and specific gravity.
  • Collect and analyze samples using various laboratory techniques, including microscopy and basic biochemical assays.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results.
  • Contribute to the general upkeep and organization of the laboratory.
  • Support the production team in scaling up successful fermentation processes.
  • Learn and adhere to all safety protocols and quality control standards.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in biology, chemistry, microbiology, or food science.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Eagerness to learn and a proactive attitude.
  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs and stand for extended periods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree program in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Prior exposure to laboratory settings (academic or personal projects).
  • Understanding of basic aseptic techniques.
