Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Purchase Ledger Clerk to join our finance team in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. This is a critical role responsible for managing and processing a high volume of purchase invoices, ensuring accurate and timely supplier payments, and maintaining precise financial records. The successful candidate will contribute significantly to the efficiency and integrity of our financial operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process a high volume of purchase invoices accurately and efficiently, matching them to purchase orders and delivery notes.
  • Reconcile supplier statements against our ledger, identifying and resolving any discrepancies or issues promptly.
  • Prepare and execute regular payment runs to suppliers, ensuring adherence to payment terms and internal controls.
  • Manage and maintain accurate supplier records and master data within the accounting system.
  • Communicate effectively with suppliers and internal departments (e.g., purchasing, goods inwards) to resolve invoice queries.
  • Assist with month-end closing procedures, including ledger reconciliations and accruals.
  • Ensure compliance with company financial policies, procedures, and relevant accounting standards.
  • Support the wider finance team with ad-hoc tasks and projects as required.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a Purchase Ledger, Accounts Payable, or similar accounting role.
  • Proficiency in using accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Sage) and strong Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in data entry and reconciliation.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for interacting with suppliers and internal colleagues.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAT qualification (or working towards it) or an equivalent accounting qualification.
  • Experience working within a large retail or fast-paced commercial environment.
  • Familiarity with large-scale ERP systems.
