Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Robotics / Mechatronics Engineer to join our dynamic team at Idaho National Laboratory. This role involves the design, development, integration, and testing of advanced robotic and mechatronic systems for critical applications in nuclear energy, national security, and scientific research. You will work on cutting-edge projects, contributing to the advancement of automation, remote operations, and intelligent systems. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement robotic and mechatronic systems, including manipulators, mobile platforms, and sensor integration.
- Perform hardware and software integration for complex robotic systems, ensuring robust and reliable operation.
- Conduct testing, debugging, and validation of robotic systems in laboratory and field environments.
- Develop control algorithms, perception systems, and human-robot interfaces.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, electrical, software, and nuclear engineers.
- Contribute to technical documentation, research papers, and project proposals.
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and industry standards in all aspects of design and operation.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Robotics Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in robotics, mechatronics, or automation system development.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C++, Python, and MATLAB.
- Experience with robotic operating systems (ROS) and simulation tools (e.g., Gazebo, V-REP).
- Strong understanding of control systems, kinematics, dynamics, and sensor technologies.
- Experience with industrial robotics, custom automation, or research robotics platforms.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities and strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with machine vision, artificial intelligence, or machine learning for robotics applications.
- Familiarity with various sensor modalities (e.g., LiDAR, cameras, force/torque sensors).
- Experience in a research and development environment, particularly in government or national laboratory settings.
- Knowledge of nuclear environments or remote handling systems.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) and embedded systems development.
