Job Description

Join The University of Alabama’s innovative research team as a Direct Air Capture Technology Intern. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring scientist or engineer to gain hands-on experience in the rapidly evolving field of carbon capture and removal. As an intern, you will support ongoing projects focused on developing and optimizing novel technologies for extracting carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. This role is designed for individuals eager to learn and contribute to solutions for climate change, providing comprehensive training and mentorship in a dynamic research environment. No prior direct experience in DAC is required; we are looking for passionate individuals ready to dive in and learn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist research scientists and graduate students in experimental setup and execution related to direct air capture (DAC) technologies.
  • Perform data collection, organization, and preliminary analysis using various laboratory instruments.
  • Conduct literature reviews to support ongoing research and identify emerging trends in carbon capture.
  • Help maintain laboratory equipment and ensure a safe working environment.
  • Prepare basic reports and presentations on research findings and progress.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to brainstorming sessions for project development.

Required Skills

  • Strong interest in environmental science, chemical engineering, materials science, or related fields.
  • Basic understanding of scientific principles and research methodologies.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program (preferably sophomore or junior year) in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline.
  • Coursework completed in general chemistry, physics, environmental science, or engineering fundamentals.
  • Prior experience in a laboratory setting (e.g., academic lab courses) is a plus but not required.
  • GPA of 3.0 or higher.
