Job Description

The Pennsylvania SPCA is seeking a dedicated Feline Rescue & Shelter Ops Intern to join our team in Philadelphia. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to learn the intricacies of shelter operations, animal care, and adoption processes directly from experienced professionals. No prior experience is required; we are looking for enthusiastic individuals ready to learn and contribute to our life-saving mission. You will receive comprehensive training in all aspects of feline care and shelter support, making a tangible difference in the lives of hundreds of cats awaiting their forever homes.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily feeding, watering, and cleaning of feline enclosures.
- Monitor the health and well-being of cats, reporting any concerns to staff.
- Provide enrichment and socialization for shelter cats, including play and cuddle time.
- Support adoption counselors during meet-and-greet sessions with potential adopters.
- Assist with inventory management of cat food, litter, and supplies.
- Help maintain cleanliness and organization of shelter common areas.
- Learn and adhere to all shelter protocols for animal handling and safety.
- Contribute to basic administrative tasks as needed to support shelter operations.
Required Skills
- A genuine passion for cats and animal welfare.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
- Patience and empathy towards animals and people.
- Capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 lbs, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
