Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and organised Legal Support professional to join our Justice Sector team based in Belconnen, ACT. This role is crucial in providing comprehensive administrative and paralegal assistance to our lawyers working on a diverse range of government legal matters. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of legal services for our government clients, contributing directly to justice outcomes. Key Responsibilities
- Provide administrative and paralegal support to legal professionals within the Justice Sector team.
- Assist with document preparation, including drafting correspondence, briefs, and legal documents under supervision.
- Manage and organise physical and electronic case files, ensuring accuracy and accessibility.
- Conduct legal research using various databases and resources, summarising findings as required.
- Coordinate meetings, appointments, and travel arrangements for legal team members.
- Handle incoming and outgoing communications, including phone calls, emails, and postal mail.
- Assist with billing processes, expense reports, and time recording.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to all legal and ethical standards.
- Support compliance efforts and internal firm procedures.
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 12 months in an administrative or legal support role, preferably within a professional services environment.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Discretion and the ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
- Proactive and team-oriented approach to work.
Preferred Qualifications
- A Certificate IV in Legal Services or a relevant paralegal qualification.
- Familiarity with Australian government legal processes and terminology.
- Experience using legal document management systems (e.g., iManage, NetDocs).
- Understanding of the Australian justice system and legal frameworks.
