Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and community-focused Library Assistant to join our team on a part-time basis. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to a quiet and organized environment, providing essential support for the daily operations of the Mandurah Public Library. You will assist patrons with their inquiries, manage library resources, and help maintain the welcoming atmosphere of our facility. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist library patrons with general inquiries, locating materials, and using library services.
  • Process new library memberships, loans, returns, and renewals using the library management system.
  • Shelve and re-shelve books and other library materials accurately and efficiently.
  • Maintain the tidiness and organization of library collections and public areas.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks, including data entry and record-keeping.
  • Support library programs and events as required.
  • Ensure a positive and respectful experience for all library visitors.

Required Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service orientation with a friendly and approachable demeanor.
  • Basic computer literacy and ability to learn new software systems.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in tasks such as shelving and data entry.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliability and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a library, customer service, or administrative role.
  • Knowledge of library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal System).
  • Familiarity with the Mandurah community and local resources.
  • Current Working With Children Check (or willingness to obtain one).
