Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic High Energy Physics & Particle Accelerator Intern to join our cutting-edge research team in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in fundamental physics research and particle accelerator technologies. You will work alongside experienced physicists and engineers, contributing to real-world projects and learning about the design, operation, and data analysis related to particle accelerators. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal opportunity for individuals with a strong academic foundation in physics or related fields who are eager to apply their knowledge in a practical, research-intensive environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior researchers in the experimental setup and calibration of particle detection systems.
  • Perform data acquisition and initial analysis of experimental results under guidance.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and troubleshooting of accelerator components and associated instrumentation.
  • Learn and apply simulation software for particle tracking and interaction studies.
  • Participate in team meetings and present findings, contributing to scientific discussions.
  • Document experimental procedures, observations, and preliminary results.
  • Research and summarize relevant scientific literature to support ongoing projects.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Physics, Engineering Physics, Nuclear Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong foundational knowledge of classical mechanics, electromagnetism, and modern physics concepts.
  • Eagerness to learn about high-energy physics, particle accelerators, and detector technologies.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB, C++).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous coursework or projects related to quantum mechanics, particle physics, or accelerator physics.
  • Familiarity with Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with scientific computing environments or high-performance computing (HPC).
  • Basic understanding of electronics and instrumentation.
