Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and compassionate Patient Transport Drivers to join our growing team in Plymouth. In this vital role, you will be responsible for transporting patients with varying medical needs, including those with mobility challenges, to and from hospitals, clinics, and their homes. This position requires exceptional driving skills, a strong commitment to patient care, and the ability to maintain a professional and empathetic demeanor at all times. You will play a crucial role in ensuring patients arrive at their destinations safely and on time, contributing to their overall healthcare journey.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely transport patients to and from medical facilities and residences.
  • Assist patients with mobility, including transferring to and from vehicles, using wheelchairs, stretchers, or walking aids as required.
  • Operate and maintain specialist patient transport vehicles, ensuring they are clean, fully equipped, and in good working order.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and patient safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate patient records and transport logs.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and medical staff.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and provide basic first aid if necessary (training provided).

Required Skills

  • Valid UK Driving License (Category B minimum).
  • Clean driving record for at least 2 years.
  • Excellent geographical knowledge of Plymouth and surrounding areas.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
  • Physical capability to assist patients with mobility and lift equipment.
  • Compassionate and patient-focused approach.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in patient transport, ambulance services, or a similar driving role.
  • First Aid at Work certification.
  • Manual Handling training.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding vulnerable adults.
  • NVQ Level 2 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
