Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Forensic Scientist / Toxicologist to join our team in Ogden, Utah. This pivotal role involves the expert analysis of biological samples for the presence of drugs, alcohol, and other chemical substances in criminal investigations. The successful candidate will perform a wide range of analytical tests, interpret results, prepare comprehensive reports, and provide expert testimony in court. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analysis of biological samples (e.g., blood, urine, tissue) for drugs, poisons, and other toxic substances using various analytical techniques.
  • Operate and maintain sophisticated laboratory instruments including GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, and immunoassay systems.
  • Develop, validate, and optimize analytical methods for forensic toxicology applications.
  • Interpret complex analytical data and formulate conclusions based on scientific evidence.
  • Prepare detailed and accurate laboratory reports suitable for legal proceedings.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court regarding analytical findings and methodologies.
  • Maintain strict adherence to laboratory quality assurance and quality control protocols.
  • Participate in proficiency testing programs and continuous professional development.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Forensic Science, Chemistry, Toxicology, or a related scientific field.
  • Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, LC-MS/MS).
  • Strong understanding of analytical chemistry principles and toxicology methodologies.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for report writing and court testimony.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced forensic laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or Ph.D. in Forensic Toxicology, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
  • Certification by the American Board of Forensic Toxicology (ABFT) or equivalent.
  • Prior experience (2+ years) working in an accredited forensic toxicology laboratory.
  • Experience providing expert witness testimony in criminal court proceedings.
