Job Description

Are you passionate about community well-being and eager to start a career in public health? The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is seeking a Public Health Educator Trainee for our Community Outreach programs. This entry-level position is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, offering comprehensive training and mentorship. You will learn the fundamentals of public health education, community engagement strategies, and program delivery, playing a vital role in informing and empowering residents across Bradford West Gwillimbury and surrounding areas. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience and contribute directly to public health initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, development, and delivery of public health education programs and outreach activities under supervision.
  • Engage with community members at events, workshops, and informational sessions to promote health awareness.
  • Distribute educational materials and resources on various public health topics (e.g., nutrition, active living, immunizations, mental wellness).
  • Support the collection and input of program data for evaluation purposes.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify community needs and tailor outreach efforts.
  • Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance public health knowledge and skills.

Required Skills

  • Valid G Class Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle (for community outreach).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Enrollment in or completion of a diploma or degree program in Public Health, Health Promotion, Community Development, Social Sciences, Education, or a related field.
  • Volunteer experience in community health, education, or social services.
  • Familiarity with the Bradford West Gwillimbury community.
