Job Description
As a City Recreation Center Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in the daily operation and management of one of York’s vital community recreation centers. You will be responsible for overseeing staff, ensuring the safety and satisfaction of facility users, and coordinating a variety of recreational programs. This position requires a proactive leader with excellent organizational skills and a passion for community engagement and well-being. You will maintain high standards of facility cleanliness and operational efficiency, contributing directly to the vibrant life of our city.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and schedule recreation center staff, including front desk personnel, lifeguards, and program instructors.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all facility users by enforcing rules and regulations and responding to emergencies.
- Oversee the daily operations of the recreation center, including opening and closing procedures, facility maintenance, and equipment checks.
- Manage program registration, scheduling, and promotion for various recreational activities.
- Handle customer inquiries, feedback, and complaints in a professional and timely manner.
- Assist in budget management, inventory control, and procurement of supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and facility usage.
- Collaborate with other council departments and community groups to enhance program offerings.
- Conduct regular staff meetings and provide ongoing training and performance feedback.
Required Skills
- Proven supervisory or leadership experience in a recreation or public service setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in facility management and operational procedures.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergencies and administer first aid/CPR.
- Working knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to recreation facilities.
- Competent in using recreation management software and standard office applications.
Preferred Qualifications
- A degree or diploma in Recreation Management, Sports Science, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications such as Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or advanced life-saving qualifications.
- Experience in program development and event coordination.
- Knowledge of local government operations and community engagement strategies.
