Job Description
Are you looking for a new career path with comprehensive training and immediate employment? Nova Scotia Power is seeking motivated individuals to join our team as Trainee Smart Meter Installers. No prior experience is required – we provide fully paid certification and all the necessary training to equip you with the skills to become a qualified Smart Meter Installer. You will play a crucial role in modernizing Nova Scotia’s energy infrastructure by installing and maintaining advanced smart meters, ensuring accurate energy consumption data and supporting grid efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Learn and master the installation, testing, and maintenance procedures for various types of smart meters.
- Safely install, remove, and replace electrical meters at residential and commercial properties.
- Conduct pre-installation site surveys and post-installation checks.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and company policies.
- Provide clear and courteous communication with customers regarding installations.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, inventory, and safety checks.
- Troubleshoot basic meter issues and report complex problems to senior technicians.
- Participate actively in all training and certification programs.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean driving record
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to work with hand and power tools
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Commitment to safety and adherence to strict protocols
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a customer service role
- Basic understanding of electrical concepts or previous trades experience (not required, but a plus)
- First Aid and CPR certification (can be obtained during training)
