Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Educational Psychologist to join our dedicated team within the London Borough of Brent. This is an exceptional opportunity to make a significant impact on the lives of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) across our diverse borough. The role involves working collaboratively with schools, families, and other professionals to conduct assessments, provide interventions, and offer psychological advice and support. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments of children and young people, including those with complex needs, to inform educational planning and provision.
- Provide psychological advice and support to schools, parents, and other professionals regarding children's learning, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
- Design, implement, and evaluate psychological interventions, both direct and indirect, to support children and young people's progress.
- Contribute to the statutory assessment process for children and young people with SEND, including writing reports and attending multi-agency meetings.
- Deliver training and professional development to school staff on psychological principles, SEND, and effective support strategies.
- Work collaboratively with other agencies and professionals, including health, social care, and voluntary organisations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records in accordance with professional and organisational guidelines.
- Contribute to service development and continuous improvement initiatives within the Educational Psychology Service.
Required Skills
- Qualification in Educational Psychology (e.g., Doctorate or Master's degree).
- Registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as an Educational Psychologist.
- Demonstrable experience working as an Educational Psychologist, preferably within a local authority setting.
- Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and guidance, including the SEND Code of Practice (2015).
- Excellent assessment, formulation, and intervention skills.
- Ability to communicate complex psychological information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences.
- Experience of working with diverse populations and an understanding of cultural sensitivities.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in delivering specialist training or supervision.
- Further professional development or qualifications in specific therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy).
- Experience working with specific age groups or complex needs (e.g., Early Years, Autistic Spectrum Conditions, SEMH).
- A full UK driving license and access to a car for work purposes (reasonable adjustments made for disability).
