Job Description
Join the team at Goodwill Industries of St. Petersburg as a Thrift / Charity Shop Sorting Assistant! This flexible, backroom role is perfect for individuals who enjoy organizing, sorting, and contributing to a meaningful cause. No prior experience is necessary – we provide comprehensive training. You’ll be an essential part of our mission, helping to process donations that directly support our community programs. This position involves handling a variety of donated items, from clothing and household goods to electronics and furniture, ensuring they are sorted, priced, and prepared for the sales floor efficiently and accurately. Key Responsibilities
- Receive, unload, and organize incoming donations from various sources.
- Sort donated items into appropriate categories (e.g., clothing, housewares, electronics, books) based on quality, condition, and salability.
- Inspect items for defects, damage, or missing parts, and determine suitability for sale or recycling.
- Clean and prepare items for display, including wiping down surfaces, steaming clothes, and simple repairs if applicable.
- Price items accurately following established guidelines and pricing strategies.
- Move sorted and priced items to the sales floor or designated storage areas.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe backroom and sorting area.
- Assist with inventory management and tracking as needed.
- Adhere to all safety procedures and company policies.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient workflow and a positive work environment.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Basic organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
- Reliable and punctual.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in a retail, warehouse, or sorting environment is a plus, but not required.
- Familiarity with various types of merchandise and brand names.
