Job Description

Join Nuffield Health as a Music Therapist and make a profound difference in the lives of our patients within our Bristol facility. You will provide therapeutic support through music interventions, helping individuals achieve their personal goals, improve communication, manage pain, and enhance emotional expression. This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive multidisciplinary team, applying your expertise in a varied clinical setting to provide person-centred care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan and deliver individual and group music therapy sessions tailored to patient needs.
  • Assess patients' musical preferences, abilities, and therapeutic goals through observation and interaction.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans, regularly evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and timely patient records, documenting progress and interventions.
  • Collaborate effectively with doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Actively contribute to care planning and multidisciplinary team meetings.
  • Provide support and education to patients' families and caregivers where appropriate.
  • Ensure a safe, stimulating, and respectful therapeutic environment for all patients.

Required Skills

  • Master's degree in Music Therapy from an accredited program.
  • Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Music Therapist.
  • Proven post-qualification experience working as a Music Therapist in a clinical or healthcare setting.
  • Excellent musical skills and proficiency in multiple instruments (e.g., guitar, piano, voice).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • High degree of empathy, patience, resilience, and clinical judgment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with specific patient populations such as neurological rehabilitation, mental health, palliative care, or learning disabilities.
  • Additional training or certification in related therapeutic modalities or counselling.
  • Experience in supervising students or junior therapists.
  • Involvement in research or contributions to the field of music therapy.
