Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and physically capable Postal Sack Mover to join our team at the Post Office Sorting Facility in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This crucial role involves the efficient and safe movement of postal sacks, packages, and other mail items within the sorting facility. You will be responsible for loading, unloading, sorting, and transporting heavy items, ensuring the smooth flow of mail processing. Full training will be provided to ensure you understand all safety protocols and operational procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually load and unload mail sacks, parcels, and other postal items from delivery vehicles and into designated areas.
- Transport mail items using manual pallet jacks, carts, or by hand to various sorting stations within the facility.
- Sort mail and packages according to destination or classification as directed.
- Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, including proper lifting techniques and the use of personal protective equipment.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including clearing debris and stacking empty containers.
- Assist with other general warehouse duties as required to support facility operations.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to ensure efficient workflow.
Required Skills
- Ability to lift and move heavy items repeatedly throughout a shift (up to 70 lbs/32 kg).
- Good physical stamina and endurance.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong commitment to safety procedures.
- Basic understanding of workplace communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or similar physical labour role.
- Experience operating manual pallet jacks or other material handling equipment.
