Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and physically fit Geothermal Drilling Assistant (Mate) to join our dynamic team based in Taunton, Somerset. This is a demanding manual labor role crucial to our geothermal energy projects, offering excellent pay and the chance to contribute directly to the UK’s sustainable energy future. You will work alongside experienced drilling operators, providing essential support in all aspects of drilling operations. This role requires a strong work ethic, a commitment to safety, and the ability to thrive in an outdoor, physically challenging environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist drilling operators in the setup, operation, and dismantling of drilling rigs and associated equipment.
- Handle, load, and unload drilling pipes, tools, and materials safely and efficiently.
- Prepare drilling fluids and maintain appropriate levels throughout operations.
- Operate support equipment such as pumps, mixers, and hand tools.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and work areas.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and environmental regulations.
- Monitor equipment for signs of wear or malfunction and report issues promptly.
- Maintain clear communication with team members and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Exceptional physical fitness and stamina to perform demanding manual labor for extended periods.
- Ability to work effectively in various outdoor weather conditions.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
- Basic understanding of hand tools and heavy machinery operation.
- Commitment to health and safety practices.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team environment.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and technologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in drilling, construction, mining, or heavy industrial environments.
- Relevant safety certifications (e.g., CSCS card, Manual Handling certificate).
- First Aid certification.
- Valid UK driving license.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
