Job Description

Sodexo is seeking a diligent and proactive Maintenance Operative to join our dedicated team in Plymouth. This role is crucial for ensuring the smooth operation and upkeep of our client’s facilities, covering a range of general maintenance tasks. The ideal candidate will be practical, detail-oriented, and committed to providing high-quality service, contributing to a safe and efficient environment for all occupants. You will be responsible for carrying out routine checks, minor repairs, and assisting with larger projects, working both independently and as part of a supportive team.

Key Responsibilities

• Conducting routine inspections of facilities and equipment to identify maintenance needs.
• Performing minor repairs and preventative maintenance tasks across plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
• Assisting skilled tradespeople with more complex repairs, installations, and projects.
• Responding promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests and resolving issues in a timely manner.
• Ensuring all work is carried out safely and in compliance with company policies and health & safety regulations.
• Maintaining cleanliness, organization, and security of work areas, tools, and equipment.
• Reporting any major repair needs, safety hazards, or equipment malfunctions to management.
• Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.

Required Skills

• Proven experience (1+ years) in a maintenance or facilities support role.
• Basic knowledge of general building maintenance, including fundamental plumbing, electrical, and carpentry tasks.
• Proficiency in using various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused approach.
• Ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team.
• Valid UK Driving Licence.

Preferred Qualifications

• NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in a relevant trade (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry).
• Health & Safety certification (e.g., IOSH Working Safely, NEBOSH General Certificate).
• First Aid certification.
• Experience working within a commercial or institutional environment.
