Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Night Shift Care Assistant to join our team in Sherbrooke, Quebec. This vital role involves providing essential support and care to our residents during the quieter overnight hours. Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct personal care to residents as needed, including assistance with toileting, mobility, and hygiene, while maintaining their dignity and privacy.
- Conduct regular checks on residents throughout the night to ensure their comfort and safety, responding promptly to calls for assistance.
- Assist residents with specific medical needs as directed by care plans, such as medication reminders (under supervision, if applicable) or monitoring vital signs.
- Document observations, care provided, and any changes in resident condition accurately and thoroughly.
- Maintain a quiet and peaceful environment conducive to resident rest.
- Respond to emergencies and escalate concerns to the nursing staff or supervisor as required.
- Ensure tidiness and organization of common areas and resident rooms as part of the overnight routine.
- Work collaboratively with other team members to ensure seamless continuity of care.
Required Skills
- Exceptional empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially for night shifts.
- Ability to communicate effectively and kindly with residents, families, and colleagues.
- Physical ability to assist residents with mobility and perform duties that may involve standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and resident needs.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team during quiet overnight hours.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a caregiving role (personal, volunteer, or professional) is an asset but not required.
- Completion of a Personal Support Worker (PSW) program or equivalent is an asset.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Fluency in French and English is an asset given the location.
