Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Public Health Nurse to join our dynamic team. This critical role involves working directly with the Paterson community to assess health needs, provide health education, implement preventive programs, and connect residents with vital health resources. The Public Health Nurse will be instrumental in addressing health disparities, promoting wellness across the lifespan, and responding to public health emergencies. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct community health assessments to identify key health issues and disparities.
- Plan, implement, and evaluate health promotion and disease prevention programs.
- Provide health education and counseling to individuals, families, and groups on various topics including chronic disease management, maternal and child health, and infectious disease prevention.
- Administer immunizations and conduct health screenings.
- Collaborate with community partners, healthcare providers, and other city departments to coordinate services and resources.
- Respond to public health emergencies and participate in outbreak investigations.
- Maintain accurate and confidential client records in compliance with established regulations.
- Advocate for policies and programs that improve community health.
- Provide direct patient care in community settings, adhering to professional nursing standards.
Required Skills
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Jersey or eligibility for licensure.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program.
- Demonstrated knowledge of public health principles and practices.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cultural competence skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a community-based setting.
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) and basic computer applications.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation for community visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Public Health (MPH) or Community Health Nursing.
- Certified in Public Health (CPH).
- Bilingual proficiency, particularly in Spanish.
- Previous experience in a public health department or community health setting.
- Experience working with diverse populations and understanding of social determinants of health.
