Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and physically capable individuals to join our terminal team as a Luggage Unloader for cruise ship operations at Greenock Ocean Terminal. This role is essential to ensuring a smooth and efficient turnaround for cruise vessels and a positive experience for passengers. You will be responsible for the safe and timely unloading and handling of passenger luggage, often involving heavy lifting and working in a fast-paced environment. Full training on port safety protocols and handling procedures will be provided. This is an entry-level position perfect for individuals who are reliable, hardworking, and ready to contribute to a dynamic port environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently unload luggage from cruise ships upon arrival, adhering to strict timelines.
- Transport luggage using appropriate equipment (trolleys, carts) to designated sorting or holding areas.
- Handle luggage with care to prevent damage.
- Assist with loading luggage onto subsequent transport or into passenger collection areas as required.
- Adhere to all port security and safety regulations and procedures.
- Work collaboratively with terminal staff, cruise line representatives, and security personnel.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Report any damaged luggage or safety concerns to a supervisor immediately.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform heavy lifting repeatedly (up to 25kg) and stand for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.
- Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
- Good team player with a positive attitude.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends and public holidays, as dictated by cruise ship schedules.
- Right to work in the UK.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a physically demanding role (e.g., warehousing, construction, manual labor).
- Experience operating manual handling equipment (e.g., pallet trucks, trolleys).
- Familiarity with port operations or logistics environments.
- Basic understanding of health and safety practices.
