Job Description
Are you a student passionate about drones and their application in surveying? PSOMAS is seeking an enthusiastic Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) Intern to join our Surveying team in Irvine. This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring professional to gain hands-on experience with drone technology, data acquisition, and processing within a professional surveying environment. You will work alongside experienced surveyors and UAS pilots, contributing to real-world projects and learning the fundamentals of geospatial data collection and analysis. Full training will be provided, making this an ideal role for individuals with a strong interest but limited prior experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified UAS pilots with pre-flight checks, flight operations, and post-flight data management.
- Support the processing of drone-acquired imagery and LiDAR data using specialized software.
- Participate in field assignments, ensuring safe and compliant drone operations.
- Help with data quality control and preliminary analysis for various surveying projects.
- Maintain UAS equipment, batteries, and accessories.
- Document flight logs, maintenance records, and project-specific data.
- Learn and adhere to all FAA regulations and company safety protocols related to UAS operations.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Surveying, Geospatial Science, Engineering, Computer Science, Aviation, or a related field.
- Strong interest in Unmanned Aerial Systems (drones) and surveying technology.
- Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
- Basic understanding of photogrammetry principles.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroStation).
- Part 107 FAA Remote Pilot certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Previous experience with model aircraft or drones.
