Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team as a Trainee Highway Inspector. This entry-level position is perfect for someone looking to start a career in civil infrastructure and transportation. You will receive comprehensive on-the-job training and mentorship to develop the skills necessary to inspect highways, bridges, and other transportation infrastructure. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and quality of Texas’s vast transportation network.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in a structured training program to learn about highway inspection techniques, safety protocols, and quality standards.
- Accompany experienced inspectors on site visits to observe and assist with routine inspections of roads, bridges, culverts, and other highway assets.
- Learn to identify potential defects, hazards, and areas requiring maintenance or repair.
- Assist in documenting inspection findings, including taking notes, photographs, and measurements.
- Understand and apply relevant construction specifications, codes, and regulations.
- Operate basic inspection tools and equipment under supervision.
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures while working in traffic environments.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding inspection progress and findings.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Valid Texas Driver's License (or ability to obtain upon hire)
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to learn and adapt quickly
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and traverse uneven terrain
Preferred Qualifications
- Some experience in construction, labor, or a related field (not mandatory)
- Knowledge of basic engineering principles or terminology
- Associate's degree in a related technical field
