Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Counselor / Guidance Counselor to join our dynamic team in Newcastle upon Tyne. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive guidance and support services to students, helping them navigate academic, social, emotional, and career challenges. The successful candidate will play a crucial part in fostering a positive school climate and ensuring student well-being and success. Key Responsibilities
- Provide individual and group counseling to students regarding academic, personal, social, and career development.
- Develop and implement guidance programs and workshops on topics such as stress management, conflict resolution, and career planning.
- Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administration to support student success and address concerns.
- Conduct assessments and interpret results to help students understand their strengths and areas for growth.
- Maintain accurate and confidential student records in accordance with professional and ethical standards.
- Act as a liaison between students, families, school staff, and community resources.
- Respond to crisis situations and provide immediate support and intervention as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and school community events.
Required Skills
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent relevant professional qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a school counseling or guidance role.
- Strong understanding of child development and adolescent psychology.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and active listening skills.
- Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and ethical practice.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and data management relevant to student support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in School Counseling, Educational Psychology, or a related field.
- Experience working within a multi-academy trust or large educational institution.
- Knowledge of local community resources and support networks in Newcastle upon Tyne.
- Membership in a professional counseling body (e.g., BACP, NCS).
