Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and innovative VFX Technical Director to join our dynamic team in Charlottesville, Virginia. This pivotal role will be instrumental in developing cutting-edge visual effects pipelines and tools for advanced simulation, visualization, and immersive experience projects crucial to our defense and intelligence programs. The ideal candidate will bridge the gap between creative vision and technical execution, providing robust solutions that empower our artists and engineers. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain VFX pipelines and tools using Python, C++, and scripting languages for Maya, Houdini, Nuke, and similar industry-standard software.
- Collaborate closely with artists, designers, and engineers to understand project requirements and deliver efficient, high-quality technical solutions.
- Troubleshoot complex technical issues related to VFX assets, rendering, and simulation.
- Research and implement new technologies and workflows to enhance visual fidelity and production efficiency.
- Develop custom shaders, procedural systems, and rendering optimizations.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced team members.
- Ensure adherence to best practices for code quality, documentation, and version control.
Required Skills
- Strong proficiency in Python scripting for VFX applications.
- Solid understanding of 3D software APIs (Maya, Houdini preferred).
- Experience with rendering technologies (e.g., Arnold, Redshift, V-Ray, Karma).
- Knowledge of procedural content generation techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively.
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a VFX Technical Director or similar role.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Visual Effects, or a related technical field.
- Experience with game engines like Unreal Engine or Unity.
- Familiarity with Shotgun/ShotGrid or other production management software.
- Knowledge of C++ for plugin development.
- Experience with real-time VFX or virtual production workflows.
- Understanding of machine learning applications in VFX.
