Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated Medical Interns to join our dynamic team at Gosford Hospital. This internship provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on clinical experience across various medical and surgical specialties within a supportive and educational environment. As a Medical Intern, you will work under the supervision of experienced clinicians, participate in patient care, contribute to ward rounds, and develop essential skills for your medical career. This program is designed to provide comprehensive training and mentorship for aspiring medical professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist medical officers in the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients.
- Participate actively in ward rounds, clinical meetings, and educational sessions.
- Document patient histories, physical examinations, progress notes, and medical orders accurately and timely.
- Monitor patient vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatment, reporting changes promptly to supervising medical staff.
- Perform basic medical procedures under direct supervision, including but not limited to venipuncture, cannulation, and ECGs.
- Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, their families, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety protocols, including infection control.
- Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and respectful team environment.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development activities.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an accredited medical degree program (MBBS or equivalent).
- Strong academic record demonstrating a solid understanding of medical principles.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- High level of professionalism, integrity, and ethical conduct.
- Commitment to patient-centred care and a compassionate approach.
- Basic computer literacy for electronic health record navigation.
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior volunteer experience or clinical observerships in a healthcare setting.
- Participation in medical student societies, research projects, or leadership roles.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Understanding of the Australian healthcare system.
